I had a pileated woodpecker foraging briefly in the oak tree in front of the house a few moments ago. The first one I've seen for many months. Otherwise, birds seem very scarce. About a dozen chickadees, mourning doves, a few song sparrows, the occasional downy woodpecker, a pair of blue jays and our resident crows with a stray herring gull and that's it. I did have a brown creeper last week but no sign of any American goldfinches, pine siskins etc. Ken MacAulay Port Mouton, NS
