This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --Boundary_(ID_Su7FVatTA21WFdMNB80B4w) Content-type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT The pair of Ruffed Grouse that were foraging in our backyard multiflora rose bramble appear to have left. Watching them eat the berries was amusing for us but not so amusing for the grouse. They were constantly being tangled in the thorns. The bramble collapsed this fall as they are apt to do with their arching growth pattern. The collapse went right into our pond so a major hair cut is planned for this plant in the spring. This is not a problem for this aggressive plant that easily grows 2-3 metres a year. We have several multiflora roses around our place and the birds love them, some for food only, but all for the very effective protection it provides against raptors. The first three photos of this photographic upload to my website are of the grouse. Around the winter solstice the sunrises over Sambro and Inner Sambro Islands are a sight to behold, especially if there is foreground snow in the frame. Getting up an hour before sunrise to rush out there and take the photos is the trick! I've posted four photos from a recent display.
