All: Bruce Mactavish - a long ago Halifax resident and superbirder - found a young COMMON SHELDUCK in Quidi Vidi Lake, St. John's, this a.m. It then disappeared but is being aeagerly sought. It seems likely to be a wild bird, possibly from the increasing numbers occurring in Iceland, and I believe would be a first for N. America. Anyway, thought others might consider this remote possibility when birding along the Atlantic Coast in the next days and weeks - who knows . . . Cheers, Ian Ian McLaren
