07 October 2009

In the past 10 days I've noted four different dead Gray Seals in
HRM. Three are on the Prospect Peninsula. We found the first one
on Wagner's Beach on Sept. 26, when it was still intact, though when
I saw the bird on Oct. 4 we noted that Ravens had stripped it
entirely, down to the skin and ribs. The second carcass was near
Prospect Village, while the third was on Kelly Point.

The fourth carcass, a couple of days old, was on Martinique Beach.

On none of the specimens were there any injuries that indicated how they died.

Does anyone have any thoughts regarding these mortalities, and has
anyone else found recently dead seals?

Cheers,

Blake
