I thought NatureNS readers might be interested to learn of the 
following Moss ID Workshop:

Moss Identification Workshop
A workshop with Anne Mills at the Mersey River Chalets

October 20-22, 2009

A beginner's course on how to identify bryophytes.  Set in the 
natural and relaxing setting of Mersey River Chalets, the course 
includes field trips, an intro to the use of ID keys and microscopes, 
a useful booklet and the delectable food at the chalets!

3-Day workshop only $215 + HST ((includes all meals, snacks, and instruction)
2 nights accommodations ~$100 extra

Some lecture topics to be covered:

Day 1 - What is a "moss"? Introduction to mosses and their allies.
Introduction to the microscope using Polytrichum (hair cap moss) as an example.
Introduction to using identification keys. How to make a packet for 
your specimens.

Day 2 - Habitats and substrata where mosses are found.
Learn how the instructors became interested in mosses and how they 
have progressed in this field.

Day 3 - The role of mosses in the ecosystem.
Surveying mosses in quadrants.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: October 12, 2009
Limited to 10 participants.
