Hi there,

I drove out to Sandy Cove near Sambro this evening after
work. Thanks to Hans Toom for his updates from there. I was pleased
to see the Solitary Sandpiper he reported, as well as a Spotted
Sandpiper. It's interesting to compare these two species when both
are in non-breeding plumage. There were about 35 Semipalmated
Plovers, and a lesser number of sandpiper "peep" species. As the
light was fading by 7 p.m. and they were mostly on the dark kelp, I
couldn't identify these clearly.

Two Bald Eagles, one a juvenile, were making a racket further
inland. Blue Jays were scolding and Hermit Thrushes were quietly
"chucking" in the woods nearby, There were several Northern Flickers
along the roadside. A family of Dark-eyed Juncos was busy in the
bushes, and one of the juveniles was still being fed by an adult bird.

	Cheers,

	Patricia L. Chalmers
	Halifax
