For the last couple of days, there have been a small group of sparrow-type birds, a little larger than the song sparrows (but hanging around with), spending time on the ground of my newly seeded backyard. They remind me very much of Fox Sparrows, with their deep chestnut coloured feathers on some of the body feathers and on their longish tail feathers too. But, the streaks on their chest and on the streaks on their heads are a fairly deep grey colour. I've been pouring over my Sibley's but cannot find any type of sparrow (mainly because that's the types of birds that mostly frequent my backyard these days) that look like these particular birds. Any ideas from anyone with this (not so good) description?
