With all the flurry of interesting mailings about comings and goings of our
Ruby-throateds, it might be useful to remind people that this is the season
when exotic hummers may turn up. If you see an odd-ball one, let us know and,
if possible, get photos. The most useful photos show the bird perched on a
feeder in full profile so that the plumage and body size and length of bill can
estimated (or actually measured from the width, e.g., of feeder parts like the
"flower"). Also, photos of the wing tips or spread tail may be important.
