Do you think more than one kind are sending off their reproductives at the same time in the same place? Cheers from Jim in Wolfville. ............................ Hi Jim, yes!! there are at least two sizes of ants and they are crawling all over each other. My sister (a bug tech) arrived right in the midst and she says it is happening all along the road coming out. Has to do with the temperature and is to be expected but this is an exceptionally prolific one. It lasted hours, until dark, and now no sign so far except there are discarded wings all about. Apparently they aren't carpenter ants which is what I was most afraid off. A community of them has disappeared and I want to know where they went. The strange thing is in the afternoon I went out to sweep my steps and platform and noticed all the ant holes seemed to be very large and there wasn't any activity. I even poked one or two with the broom handle to see if anyone would respond and nothing did, then suddenly it was like' old faithful ' just spewing the creatures.
