Hans' mention of migrant blackpoll warblers reminds me of an  
interpretation sign that Pat & I see where we have been walking over  
the past week, in Burns Lake, central B.C. (west of Prince George).   
The sign mentions that these tiny warblers are known to migrate huge  
distances over water (comparable to the semipalmated sandpipers,  
which are much better equipped for rapid sustained flight over 48-72  
or more hours) for five thousand kilometres or more, from Canada's  
east coast to northern South America.  Pretty amazing for a tiny  
warbler!
