Hi all
On my way home from work this evening I noted a couple of groups of Common Nighthawks ( ~ 30 birds) feeding silently between exit 24 and 25 on the TCH 104 in New Glasgow. Must have been a hatch of Flying Ants and a hundred or more gulls were in the air with them mostly Ring-billed Gulls.

While atlassing in Lower Caledonia (Guys), Aug. 2, I saw a group of 7-8 Nighthawks feeding at 9 a.m. over a small cut-over. The Nighthawks earlier in the month were quite vocal constantly calling and several doing the boom sound. My feeling was that these might have been local birds from either that square or nearby. The Lower Caledonia Nighthawks were joined by 3 Chimney Swifts in their morning feeding frenzy. I saw Nighthawks in small groups in a couple of squares that day.
Todays birds were quiet feeding without making any sound. These are most likely migrants, although I saw Nighthawks several times over the summer and no doubt breed in the New Glasgow square as well.
cheers
Ken
