Friday, July 24, 2009 - Rapidly Changing Landscapes
The purpose of this field trip is to look at the geological evidence of the landscapes of 13,000 years ago, when people first arrived in Nova Scotia. This includes evidence for a huge, ice-dammed glacial lake in the Shubenacadie Valley, and its demise and re-formation during a later time of climate instability. We'll join Ralph Stea from the N.S. Department of Natural Resources to visit sites, and we'll examine sediments and landforms from 13,000 years ago that have survived to this day.
