The grebes had twisted the mifloil together= to make a frail platform and added a few pieces to the top. It was anchore= d with the milfoil roots but didn't have much up and down movement so if th= e water level went up - bad things could happen. One nest had the head and skeleton of a hooded merganser included in the co= nstruction. Presumable the skeleton had been at the bottom of the pond and = the grebes had brought it up. An eagle was flying around but as the nests w= ere deserted and the eggs were in the open, it showed no interest in feedin= g on them. An interesting day.
