I took a stroll this evening on the barrens above Duncan's Reef, HRM. I was looking for Dragon's Mouth Orchid and Lincoln's Sparrow. I was successful in finding both species including two nesting locations of the Lincoln's Sparrow. The barren, the orchid and the sparrow will now be synonymous with me. The orchid is in bloom everywhere in the big bog behind the bunker but be warned this is no place for hiking boots. Rubber boots are needed here and much care on where one walks or you could disappear into the bog and never be seen again.

I also spotted my first Painted Lady Butterfly of the season but it wouldn't pose for pictures.

Hans
