Hi there,

This morning I drove downtown to go to the Halifax Farmer's
Market. Before I even got out of my car I could hear a House Finch
singing loudly near the Ralston Building on Hollis Street, and
further along I heard a Yellow Warbler singing, apparently from the
garden at Government House (the Lieutenant-Governor's residence).

Later, on my way home, I was stopped in traffic on South Park
Street, the Lord Nelson Hotel on my right and the Public Gardens on
the left. I could hear a Blackpoll Warbler singing from one of the
tall Lindens beside the Gardens. No chance to stop and look for it!

House Finches are now common in downtown Halifax; they seem to find
a home among the ornamental plantings around some of the larger
buildings and the ferry terminal. The Yellow Warbler might stay, but
the Blackpoll was certainly just passing through.

P.S. I heard my first Blackpoll Warbler of the year while walking to
work on Tuesday morning (Cambridge and Geldert Streets). I haven't
seen any reports of them on NatureNS?
