I have a good face for radio, I'm told. That's why the CBC sent a radio reporter, not a TV crew to one of the recent whale flensing trips. Nonetheless, I just got an email saying the piece will likely be on today on Maritime Noon, probably between 12:30 and 1:00. I will try to put together a photo montage in the near future. Yum. So far, I've been able to extract the right forelimb and shoulder blade, one pelvic bone, one rib and most of the lower jaw...I had to bring a chainsaw to release the left side of the lower jaw (the animal is lying on its left). I will be keeping the intact side of the jaw, and subdividing the rest for other museums. The animal is in the intertidal on a beach outside Havre Boucher, Ant. Co. With the warm weather recently, this animal is now starting to smell; fortunately, there are no houses nearby. One of the interesting observations is that as we were doing the cutting, grease was coating nearby rocks making them somewhat slippery. The tide does not wash this grease away...I know, I know, oil and water don't mix, but I would have thought that the oil would have lifted from the rocks.
