This morning there was a pair of Rose-breasted Grosbeaks among the other birds at Eileen Morrison's feeders in Broad Cove, Lun. Co. Shortly after, in Liverpool, I saw one of the 3 Blue Grosbeaks (a female) reported from the feeders at 28 Riverside in Liverpool. When I returned in early afternoon, all 3 were together - the female and 2 immature males. The feeders are easily visible from the street. Perhaps of greatest interest, there is still a big flock of Oldsquaw between Fort Point and the Bowaters Plant (visible by scoping from the Point) - 280 by count today, and more than I saw last weekend. Peter Davies tells me that this is a regular wintering flock that is hanging on a bit later than usual. Both Stilts returned to their favorite haunt near the Hank Snow Centre this afternoon, but not until an hour before low water. It's still not clear where they are the rest of the time. Of lesser note, I found singing Palm and Yellow-rumped Warblers on territory here and there, and an immature Bonaparte's Gull on the beach at Broad Cove late in the day. Eric L.
