I wonder what kind of birds... it must have been quite a mess to cause us to
be without power almost all day long!

*Power outage was for the birds*

 Blame it on the birds.

More than 4,300 homes and businesses in the St. Margarets Bay area of
western Halifax County were left without electricity Saturday after nesting
birds caused a short circuit at a Nova Scotia Power substation.

The power was knocked out at about 9:30 a.m. along Highway 333 from Upper
Tantallon to East Dover and along Highway 3 from Ingramport to Lake of the
Woods.

Some people in the Ingramport and Boutiliers Point areas had their lights
back on by noon. The rest had their service restored by 4:45 p.m.

Jennifer Parker, a Nova Scotia Power spokeswoman, said the cause of the
outage was "somewhat" unusual.

"Our systems are designed to withstand a certain amount of wildlife
interference," Ms. Parker said Saturday afternoon.

"It is nesting season, but it is unusual to have this type of outage. Now
our focus is on repairing the damage and getting our customers back into
service."
