More than 4,300 homes and businesses in the St. Margarets Bay area of western Halifax County were left without electricity Saturday after nesting birds caused a short circuit at a Nova Scotia Power substation. The power was knocked out at about 9:30 a.m. along Highway 333 from Upper Tantallon to East Dover and along Highway 3 from Ingramport to Lake of the Woods. Some people in the Ingramport and Boutiliers Point areas had their lights back on by noon. The rest had their service restored by 4:45 p.m. Jennifer Parker, a Nova Scotia Power spokeswoman, said the cause of the outage was "somewhat" unusual. "Our systems are designed to withstand a certain amount of wildlife interference," Ms. Parker said Saturday afternoon. "It is nesting season, but it is unusual to have this type of outage. Now our focus is on repairing the damage and getting our customers back into service." http://thechronicleherald.ca/NovaScotia/1117393.html --0016364d31f9d59a110468149d9d Content-Type: text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <div>I wonder what kind of birds... it must have been quite a mess to cause= us to be without power almost all day long!</div> <div>=A0</div> <div>=A0</div> <div>=A0</div> <div><strong>Power outage was for the birds</strong>=20 <p></p> <p></p> <p>Blame it on the birds.</p> <p>More than 4,300 homes and businesses in the St. Margarets Bay area of we= stern Halifax County were left without electricity Saturday after nesting b= irds caused a short circuit at a Nova Scotia Power substation.</p> <p>The power was knocked out at about 9:30 a.m. along Highway 333 from Uppe= r Tantallon to East Dover and along Highway 3 from Ingramport to Lake of th= e Woods.</p> <p>Some people in the Ingramport and Boutiliers Point areas had their light= s back on by noon.
