DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS : I observed my fist spring DCCO Mar 31 at Pier C in Pictou. I had reports a bird was present in the Harbour 2 days prior to this. April 2- had 3 at Pictou Causeway, April 3 had 14 at the Pictou Causeway and April 11 had. 250 at Pictou Causeway. Most times I have been over the causeway lately a Bald eagle has been sitting in the nesting pilings and as a result there is vcery little nesting activity yet. BLUE-WINGED TEAL April 10, pair at Lower Barneys River, Pict. early observation (KJM,. Charlie Kendell, Rick Ferguson) RING-NECKED DUCK Mar 22 NSPC Trenton 2 males. Note there were still 10 Gadwall and 5 Green-winged teal here likely over-wintered birds Kingfisher Haliburton Gut- 1 over-wintered RUSTY BLACKBIRD April 10 Woodfield, Pictou Co.( KJM, Charlie Kendell , Rick Ferguson) SCARLET TANAGER April 10 at Pictou Landing 1 male seen by Tim Brennan. It did not linger. Tim had NORTHERN CARDINALS which nested last year and over-wintered are now singing. GREAT BLUE HERON Apr. 5 Waterside, Pictou Co. ( two) (KJM, Rick Ferguson) Killdeer Apr. 5 Plymouth, Pict. Wilson's Snipe April 10 several 5+ Garden of Eden , Pictou Co. displaying after dusk Black-backed woodpecker April 10 pair seen by Mark Brennan in woods near the antidam flowage in the Liscomb Game Sancturay Coltsfoot was in strong bloom in many county locations on April 10 and observers had reports of it earlier at our naturalists meeting April 7. Common Redpoll 300+ April 5 Central Caribou, Pict.
