I decided to quickly check out the area this afternoon to see if =
anytning was attracted to the newly unfrozen ponds. Despite the vicious =
wind there is quite a bit of activity.
On the shore by the observation area was a BLACK SCOTER, male. The =
orange bump on the bill was brilliant. It was feeding and preening and =
seemed quite relaxed. It appeared to be cropping the grass almost like a =
goose - I thought that was strange for a scoter.

HALIBURTON FARM POND
2 Ring-necked Ducks
1 Great Blue Heron
6 Mallard
8 Black Ducks
4-500 Starlings were singing loudly in 3 nearby trees. The variety of =
songs was amazing, some were clearly imitating other birds. To make it =
more confusing a number of Red Wing black birds were singing and moving =
with them. 12 Bohemian Waxwings were attracted to all the noise but I =
couldn't tell if they joined in or not. A pair of Downey Woodpeckers =
just did their thing.

A Red-Tailed Hawk that had been soaring in the area came over and chased =
the starlings, landing in one of the trees they had been using and =
putting on a vigorous display as if it was challenging them to return. =
There were no takers.

A pair of Canada Geese have taken up residence in Akins Lake near =
Hantsport.
