The Globe & Mail is reporting that the Oxford Junior Dictionary has =
removed a whole pile of words related to the natural world (like =
porcupine, kingfisher and heron) to make room for high-tech gadget words =
like blog and MP3 player. Is the natural world now irrelevant or beyond =
the daily experiences of English-speaking children? This concerns me =
profoundly. No one thinks twice about about clear cutting or strip =
mining a forest full of things they don't know anything about and can't =
call by name. Narrow the language, narrow the thinking.=20
