All: To unkink severe "warbler neck" from standing around in Pt. Pleasant Park, and to seek relief from almost being run down by hordes of healthy young joggers, I stretched my legs by a walk in splendid isolation around Rainbow Haven Beach. There were no Megas, but several things of possible minor interest. Among the 60+ Black Ducks and a few Mallards near the park entrance, there were about 10 Green-winged Teal and a drake N. Pintail. A lone Black-belliwed Plover was on an islet to the n. of the beach, despite cascades of clay pigeons and loud shotsgun blasts from the quite nearby skeet club. There was usual gathering of Black-headed Gulls (58 counted and a few Ring-billed and large gulls) on the water and sandbars n.w. of the beach. The Myrica seems to have recovered from devastation by hurricanes in recent years, and there seems to be a good bayberry crop for the first time in 2-3 winters, at least. Accordingly, there were about 30 "Myrtle" Warblers in attendance. I flushed NO sparrows from the Marram covered dune edges, There were also few or none of these last winter, and CBC counts of e.g. Savannahs throughout NS were low. What's happened? There was, however, a flock of 14 Lapland Longspurs. Cheers, Ian
