You might even be able to plug it into your cassette player, but if not, a pair of portable speakers does not cost much. I strap my iPod onto the back of my portable speakers just with a rubber band. For the Nocturnal Owl Surveys ( http://www.bsc-eoc.org/national/nationalowls.html), I typically just use my vehicle's CD player...that way I don't have to bring anything extra with me. The problem with that is that I have to leave the doors/windows open for the sound to get out, and if the night is cold, one doesn't even get the few minutes warmth between stops.
