The enclosed email is not about a NS Rare Bird, but some may find it of interest. I'm not a subscriber of NatureNS so forgive me if this information has already been posted. The message below comes from David Christie in New Brunswick responding to an email from New Brunswick regarding sick and dying Mourning Doves. This was his response. Cheryl Davis Dartmouth, NS .................................................. 11/24/08, Vexus vexus wrote: I ended with two more mourning doves, and I took them to the AWI and by the time I got them there we lost one of the mourning doves. Early in the evening there were approximately 60 mourning doves at or around my feeder, this is the most mourning doves I have ever seen together. ............ There was another report yesterday of lethargic and dying Mourning Doves at Port Williams, N.S. With these doves that may be suffering from a disease (as opposed to injuries or weather stress), I'd suggest sending any fresh specimens found to the wildlife pathology lab at the Atlantic Veterinary College in Charlottetown. They are likely to be interested in conducting necropsies. Contact Dr. Scott McBurney (tel. 902-566-0959; e-mail SMCBURNEY@UPEI.CA ).
