(A map can be found at the Centre's web site =96 the new location is in =20= building #2; see below.) Members of the public are welcome. Attendance is free. The meeting =20 agenda will include: Supermassive Black Holes At the centre of most galaxies lies a supermassive black hole, =20 millions-to-billions times more massive than our sun. In this talk Dr. =20= Gallo will present the evidence we have for the existence of =20 supermassive black holes. He will also discuss why some of these black =20= holes appear "active" while others do not, and how X-ray observations =20= reveal the hottest and most volatile regions closest to the black hole. Dr. Gallo did his BSc in his hometown of Calgary. After a short stint =20= in oil & gas he returned to graduate school and obtained his MSc (San =20= Diego StateUniversity) and PhD (University of Munich). He is an =20 Assistant Professor in the Astronomy Department at SMU for the past =20 year, and he lives in Halifax with his wife and two boys.
