Fritz et al.:

It's good to see photos of adult male Summer Tanagers, even somewhat out of
focus ones. This one is a rich, darkish red, typical of the "expected"
subspecies rubra, which breeds in e. U.S.A. Years ago during October on Seal I.
I saw a paler red male with a palish bill that _might_ have been subspecies
cooperi from w. U.S.A. Photos could be at least suggestive.
