Hi All; This morning I hiked the back way into Wagner's Beach, Prospect Peninsula. There were many flocks of robins and White-winged Crossbills flying west, in flocks ranging from 10 to 100. There were many hundreds of crossbills in total, and I was only on site for a bit more than one hour. There was an adult Bald Eagle perched on the Double-crested Cormorant nesting trees on Inner Gull Island, and there were six Great Cormorants on the cliffs on the south end of the island, the first I've seen this autumn locally. I didn't see any Harlequin Ducks but the tide was wrong -- I saw my first of the autumn in Shad Bay a week ago. Once at Wagner's Beach I had a flock of 17 Snow Buntings along the rocks, and there were the first Red-necked Grebes of the autumn in the bay. I rounded out this delightful walk with three American Tree Sparrows on the way back to the car. Cheers, and good birding, ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Blake Maybank maybank@ns.sympatico.ca 902-852-2077 Editor, "Nova Scotia Birds" author, "Birding Sites of Nova Scotia" http://maybank.tripod.com/BSNS.htm White's Lake, Nova Scotia, Canada
