I went out to Grand Pre for about an hour at high tide today. The best bird
was a F/ imm. RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER along the tracks E. of Wolfville - very
likely the same one seen a few days ago by Bernard Forsythe and Rick
Whitman. There were 2 Red-thr. Loons and 2 W-W Scoter on the water, but no
shorebirds. There were small flocks of Horned Larks with a few Snow Buntings
around the dykes, with at least 1 Lapland Longspur. There were 4 or 5 Bald
Eagles perched on treetops, but I only saw 1 Red-tail. There were thousnds
of Crows, hundreds of Starlings, and I estmated about 600 Black Ducks and
100+ Canada Geese on the tide across from Wolfville Sewage plant. Song and
Savannah Sparrows also seemed plentiful. Would have been a great day for a
Xmas Count!
