Hi All; I cannot recall if anyone posted this forecast to NatureNS, but just in case. . . Here is the link to the annual Winter Finch Forecast produced by Ron Pittaway of the Ontario Field Ornithologists. It deals with Ontario, and so may be more or less applicable with what may happen here in Nova Scotia, but it is worthwhile reading. The forecast also discusses three other irruptive species, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Blue Jay, and Bohemian Waxwing, as well as northern owls. It did not discuss Boreal Chickadees, which staged a major southward irruption in Quebec this past month. Here is the link to the report. Enjoy. http://ebird.org/content/ebird/news/ron-pittaways-winter-finch-forecast-2008-2009 Cheers, ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Blake Maybank maybank@ns.sympatico.ca Editor, "Nova Scotia Birds" author, "Birding Sites of Nova Scotia" http://maybank.tripod.com/BSNS.htm White's Lake, Nova Scotia, Canada
