I've just come back from an errand in town (thankfully, I decided to walk or
I would have missed this sighting).

A House Sparrow came out of some shrubbery with a twig, and landed on a
wire. A struggle ensued with another HOSP and the new one got the twig and
flew off with it. I checked *Birds of North America Online* and the species
account for HOSP indicates that egg laying can occur as late as early
September. Further along in the article, it states, "Potential nest sites
may be selected in fall, some nest material brought to site and site used as
winter roost. These sites may be abandoned before breeding as might nests
built during the breeding season."

I didn't know that.
