Whilst perusing Canada Geese flocks for those elusive tag-alongs (such as Cackling Geese, White-fronted Geese, etc.), keep in mind that 123 Canada Geese from western Greenland were marked with bright yellow neck collars this past summer. Each has a three-letter code beginning with the letter "G". Previous recoveries of Greenland Canada Geese have been made in Labrador City, and five were shot in New Brunswick in the 1990s. Danish researchers are trying to determine why their population of White-fronted Geese are in decline, and it is beginning to appear that instra-specific competition with invading Canada Geese from North America may be at least partially responsible. So they are not just taking over golf courses, city parks and backyard ponds here in North America! This week, five live Canada Geese from west Greenland were observed near Caribou, Maine.
