Hi everyone,

here's a message from Bird Studies Canada:

Bird Studies Canada is currently looking for new volunteers to conduct surv=
eys for beached birds along Nova Scotia's Eastern and Southern Shores, espe=
cially near Halifax where shipping lanes are concentrated.

Volunteers can survey a beach that is close to where they live, or one that=
they like to visit. Surveyors walk their designated beach at least once pe=
r month and keep track of weather, tide and wind conditions, and note wheth=
er any birds were found. Volunteers do not need to be birdwatchers, and the=
y are provided with a complete kit to help them conduct the survey, includi=
ng an instruction manual and an identification guide for dead birds.

Surveys will start in October, and continue through the coming fall and win=
ter until ice or snow conditions prevent beach access. Surveys can then can=
be resumed in the spring. For more information or to participate in the Ma=
ritimes Beached Bird Survey, visit www.birdscanada.org/volunteer/acbeachbir=
d<outbind://44/www.birdscanada.org/volunteer/acbeachbird> or contact Becky =
Whittam at 506-364-5047, bwhittam@birdscanada.org

Thanks, and please contact me if you would like more information,

Kate Bredin
