Wonderful weekend in Shelburne County.
Aileen Smith and I had great looks at the Fork-tailed Flycatcher on 4th
October. Also a good look at a large dark adult Peregrine at the Guzzle.
Lots of movement of birds (mentioned by others). On Sunday FTFL still
present, feeding, and appeared undisturbed by viewing from vehicles. I
missed the Great crested Flycatcher on CSI, but glad others saw it.
I remember Peter and Linda Payzant showing me my first one in Waverley.
I believe it nested there a couple of years.
I took a few pictures at the Hawk beach of Semi and Western Sandpipers
side by side, but the pics are not very clear.
In the eastern part of the county, there was great warbler movement at
Camp Jordan yesterday. A flock of seven or eight vireos flushed, then as
I was pulling off the road, a Vulture went over the road. I believe it
was a Black Vulture ( I am familiar with them) but recorded only Vulture
species as it was some distance away and quite high. There must have
been a hundred Yellow-rumps along the track, and a number of other
unidentified fall warblers along the camp property. I was rushed for
time, so no big list. Will be off naturens for a couple of months, but
have enjoyed all the postings. Cheers, Joan
