SEPT. 30, 2008 - This morning at my Wolfville feeder I noted my first
ever sighting of a JUVENILE N. CARDINAL, very fully feathered and
well fledged and feeding itself. I also saw a flash of flying red
colour, presumably a male cardinal, and I will further presume it was
this juvenile's father, since often the juveniles are attended
earlier in the breeding season by their father while the mother
starts a new nest (latter rather unlikely now). This young cardinal
was nearly all a grayish brown colour, with a darkish gray beak, and
there was a faint wash of light orange across the breast, perhaps
indicating it was a male??

Also present among the other feeder-birds was a single dull-coloured
WHITE-THROATED SPARROW.

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville
