On Saturday afternoon, I was able to get to CSI for an hour before the Ducking Show in Shelburne. The birding was wonderful. I went directly to Dan'l's Head to see the *2 Great Egrets*, both feeding not far from the road. The Oystercaters were too far away to age (even with the scope) but two were still present. I saw one of the *Lesser Black-backed Gull*s, and at the Guzzle a *Stilt* *Sandpiper* and a Great Blue Heron. 1 Greater and 1 Lesser Yellowlegs came as I was leaving. I walked a short way along Hawk Beach and saw one Am. Pipit, several Savannah Sparrows, and a wonderful mix of shorebirds. In the scope, I had both Semi-palmated and Western Sandpipers ( thanks to the great article in June issue of Birding Magazine, and posts on here and on Birdchat, in how to differentiate the two). There were Sanderlings, Least Sandpiper, Semi-palmated Plover, a couple of Dunlin, and a single Ruddy Turnstone. At the Hawk wharf I scoped four Pectoral Sandpipers. Double crested Cormorants were around the ledges, as well as a few Eiders. N. Harriers and Sharpies were on the hunt. Lots of Palm Warblers and Yellow-rumps en route to Shelburne . On the way back to Halifax today, I visited Summerville Beach and Cherry Hill., which were both very quiet. I enjoyed a visit to _For the Birds Nature Shop_ in Mahone Bay, and was pleased to see many books on Dragonflies, Butterflies and plants. The owners are very generous in their support of conservation initiatives, and have a great website with links to nature clubs and resources. See http://www.forthebirdsnatureshop.ca/
