Wednesday, September 17, 2008 Hartlen Point - front, side, back (not =
golf course)

The most dramatic moment was when at least 20 peeps stormed towards and =
past me. It was almost like many balls being thrown at me! I reacted =
and ducked a bit. Fortunately, no collisons. It was apparent that the =
merlin was somewhere at the beach (by the willow tree). At one point, a =
merlin caught a peep and worked on it while some yellowlegs nearby were =
busy feeding!!?? Then it flew away with its breakfast Birds seen =
were:

1 American pipit
2 Horned Larks
1 Catbird
1 Lincoln sparrow (Tuesday)=20
......................................
-- Black tern was last seen Tuesday at 8 am
-- Willet was seen Tuesday, but not Wednesday
............................
1 Wilson's Phalarope (evening, too briefly, due to the hawks)=20
1 Spotted Sandpiper (juvenile)
1 Hudsonian Godwit (moves around from spot to spot)
1 Whimbrel
2 Dunlins
1 Buff Breasted sandpiper
5 Baird's sandpipers
30 + Sanderlings (amazing sight to see all in a tight group! They =
looked so white. =20
10 White rumped sandpipers
3 Golden Plovers (did not check the golf course)
2 Black bellied Plovers
2 Pectoral Sandpipers
10 Ruddy Turnstones
40 + Semipalmated Sandpipers
Greater Yellow legs (one of them had only ONE leg!)=20
Lesser Yellowlegs
No Least sandpipers

Cheers, liz
