Today when I visited the Port Williams sewer ponds there was one each of three species of ducks, 1 mallard, 1 black, and 1 ring necked. A large flock of goldfinch (40+) were feeding on thistles and sow thistle. As they became agitated, and I was far enough away from them that I didn't feel that I was the cause, I observed a Peregrine falcon make an unsuccessful stoop into the flock. The birds exploded (not literally) in every direction as the peregrine made attempts at a few individuals and then flew west without its supper. Later there were two great blue herons that lazily flew into the river bed and 38 canada geese that flew from farther east in the river and gained altitude on their noisy way west. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ George E.
