This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --Boundary_(ID_loJpLYWnxTNaTqIFHzoilA) Content-type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT Good day, Suzanne Borkowski and I took out a visiting birder from the UK for some roadside birding this morning. We visited Purcell's Cove, Herring Cove, Duncan's Cove, Chebucto Head and Sandy Cove Road. At most locations, the passerines were fairly quiet although we did manage to see about 8 warbler species, nothing unusual. However, in the woods to the right of the small parking lot overlooking the ocean on John Brackett Drive in Herring Cove, we encountered a small mixed flock of warblers and vireos travelling with some BC Chickadees. In this group, Suzanne and I, but not our visitor, unfortunately, saw a Yellow-throated Vireo. Since neither of us had seen this species previously, we were initially puzzled and when the bird disappeared after about 10 seconds we retreated to the car and our field guides. The field marks we saw included: - very bright yellow head and throat - spectacles, paler than the head colour (i.e. pale yellow) - vireo-type bill (not thin like a warbler) - white wing bars - the bird was slightly larger than the warblers in the group Essentially, we have both been through all our field guides several times. Nothing else fits so we are 95% confident in the identity. Sure hope that others can find the bird!! Cheers, Bob McDonald P.S. The YTVI was species #300 for Suzanne, so she wanted to be very sure of its identity! Congratulations, Suzanne!! --Boundary_(ID_loJpLYWnxTNaTqIFHzoilA) Content-type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD> <META http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"> <META content="MSHTML 6.00.6000.16705" name=GENERATOR> <STYLE></STYLE> </HEAD> <BODY bgColor=#ffffff> <DIV><FONT size=2>Good day,</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=2>Suzanne Borkowski and I took out a visiting birder from the UK for some roadside birding this morning.
