Having a very clear western sky Wednesday evening in Avonport (the
first one that has been that clear in a while), I had no difficulty
spotting Mercury in the 10X50 binoculars with Venus. Venus was
easily seen with the unaided eye as well, but not Mercury (for me, a
binocular object only). Mercury's location was about 2.5 degrees, in
the 8 o'clock direction from Venus.

At the beginning of the observation at 20:25, Venus was almost 5
degrees above the horizon. Last view of Mercury was at 20:44, by
then within a couple of minutes of setting, Its light flashing
intermittently as a weak reddened ember. Venus was still about 1.5
degrees above the horizon. When I ended my observation at 20:50
Venus was a glowing red ember, less than a half degree from the
horizon, still visible naked-eye.

Jupiter was shining very brightly above the south. I also, very
much liked my view of Earth, its evening sky was beautifully clear !
