--Boundary_(ID_+y41NBwRX2pm4/A3b9Rxtg) Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; delsp=yes; format=flowed Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT Brian, thanks for your note below. In my very young "formative years" Pearson's and one other book I found in a used-book store were very important to my early development as a would-be birder. I devoured everything in both books, and of course struggled with how to pronounce the various common names like avocet, phainopepla, pyrrhuloxia (sp?), etc. But I never realized what a mine Pearson was for alternative common names -- no wonder common names drive us naturalists nuts!!
