As expected after a the passage of a cold front overnight and on brisk NW winds, there was a good flock of migrant waders on the Conrad's Island flats, Rose Bay, Lun. Co., on the rising tide early this morning. It included a Red Knot, a very sharp immature Baird's Sandpiper, and at least 5 Western Willets, mainly immatures, among about seven Willets in all. Parenthetically, after feeding briskly all day yesterday, our resident Ruby-throated Hummingbirds are nowhere to be seen today. This is just about on schedule for departure and coincides well with my dates for migrants passing through Brier Island in late August.
