  The subject of common names of birds came up some time ago on naturens and I made a compilation of the resust on the Nature N.S. website. See http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/Environment/FNSN/cmnbrdnm.html

  It is on the http://www.naturens.ca page of Natural History Info.
  
  I'll have to add the Long-tailed Duck's common name.
