Sunday, August 17, 2008 - Shorebirds
Fulton Lavender will lead us on a Shorebird Expedition along the Eastern Shore, from Hartlen Point near Dartmouth to Three Fathom Harbour. The trip has been timed to coincide with the high tide, which will bring the shorebirds into better viewing distance. Even though the fall migration of birds usually begins one or two weeks later, there may be opportunities to observe local species in preparation for their journey.
Bring binoculars, sunscreen, bug repellant, and a lunch suitable for the duration of the trip. The field trip will only be cancelled in very bad weather.
      . Contact: Burkhard & Ingrid Plache (475-1129, hfn.programme@gmail.com),
. Time and place: 8 a.m., Museum of Natural History parking lot.
      . Duration: Until mid-afternoon.
      . Difficulty: Easy.

Saturday, August 23, 2008 - Ram's Head - West Bay
The rocks of the Ram's Head-West Bay area present a cross section through Parrsboro's geologic past. They tell of the warm tropical coal swamps, rivers and shallow lakes that existed during the formation of Pangea before the beginning of the age of dinosaurs. This area has some of the most spectacular exposures of amphibian track ways to be found in the Parrsboro area.
The tour begins with a wade through the harbour, so bring appropriate foot gear.
NOTE: This event is sponsored by the Fundy Geological Museum. General information: here
