Here's a page with more information on the burns which it can cause (not to be taken lightly). http://www.kingcounty.gov/environment/animalsAndPlants/noxious-weeds/ weed-identification/giant-hogweed/hogweed-burns.aspx This page also describes precautions to be taken when trying to eradicate Giant Hogweed. http://invasiveplantsmi.org/hogweed/Hogweed_right.html Here in Ontario, on the eastern Ontario naturelist, in the past, we've discussed similar risk from Poison Parsnip and Cow Parsnip. Several residents in this area have had very nasty encounters with such plants after going out to eradicate them with whipper-snippers or machetes, not realizing that if they are spattered with the "juice" of the plants, it will make them incredibly photosensitive (phytophotosensitive), often resulting in extremely painful burns that can result in long-lasting scars. There's quite a bit about the dermatitis risk of this group of plants on this page from Wisconsin. http://www.wnrmag.com/stories/2000/jun00/parsnip.htm Bev Wigney Osgoode, Ontario. --Apple-Mail-8-428421378 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Content-Type: text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1 <html><body style=3D"word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; = -webkit-line-break: after-white-space; "> Jim and all,<div><br></div><div>I'm glad that Marian mentioned the = dermatitis risk as I had neglected to do so in my earlier post. =A0Here's = a page with more information on the burns which it can cause (not to be = taken lightly).</div><div><a = href=3D"http://www.kingcounty.gov/environment/animalsAndPlants/noxious-wee= ds/weed-identification/giant-hogweed/hogweed-burns.aspx">http://www.kingco= unty.gov/environment/animalsAndPlants/noxious-weeds/weed-identification/gi= ant-hogweed/hogweed-burns.aspx</a></div><div>This page also describes = precautions to be taken when trying to eradicate Giant = Hogweed.</div><div><a = href=3D"http://invasiveplantsmi.org/hogweed/Hogweed_right.html">http://inv= asiveplantsmi.org/hogweed/Hogweed_right.html</a></div><div>Here in = Ontario, on the eastern Ontario naturelist, in the past, we've discussed = similar risk from Poison Parsnip and<span class=3D"Apple-style-span" = style=3D"font-family: Arial; font-style: italic; "><span = class=3D"Apple-style-span" style=3D"font-style: normal;">=A0</span><span = class=3D"Apple-style-span" style=3D"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS'; = font-style: normal; ">Cow Parsnip<span class=3D"Apple-style-span" = style=3D"line-height: 17px; "><font face=3D"Arial" size=3D"4" = style=3D"font: 15.0px Arial"><span class=3D"Apple-style-span" = style=3D"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS'; font-size: 12px; ">. =A0Several = residents in this area have had very nasty encounters with such plants = after going out to eradicate them with whipper-snippers or machetes, not = realizing that if they are spattered with the "juice" of the plants, it = will make them incredibly photosensitive (phytophotosensitive), often = resulting in extremely painful burns that can result in long-lasting = scars. =A0There's quite a bit about the dermatitis risk of this group of = plants on this page from = Wisconsin.</span></font></span></span></span></div><div><a = href=3D"http://www.wnrmag.com/stories/2000/jun00/parsnip.htm">http://www.w= nrmag.com/stories/2000/jun00/parsnip.htm</a></div><div><br></div><div>Bev = Wigney</div><div>Osgoode, = Ontario.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div></body></html>= --Apple-Mail-8-428421378--
