Staff at Tidal Bore Rafting (Urbania, Hants Co.) mentioned observing =
a stranded sturgeon (presumably Atlantic Sturgeon, Acipenser =
oxyrhynchus) on one of the mall-sized sandbars in the Shubenacadie River =
estuary yesterday. The 5 - 6 foot creature was still breathing, in spite =
of the sunny and warm weather, and people dragged it into deeper water. =
It promptly swam off ...
Many digital photos of the big fish were taken, and I had a chance =
to view a number of them, showing an unusual track the sturgeon made =
while desperately trying to reach deeper water. I was canoeing the =
estuary today, and checked a number of large fish-like objects on the =
sandbars, in case the individual re-stranded. But no luck....for me, =
that is.
