Index of Subjects > So, is it possible that red-eyed vireos would have > hatched and fledged by mid July? > I don't know about that, but I do recall years ago in Clayton Park we had nesting R-E Vireos that spent a lot of time screaming at and chasing Blue Jays. I was always impressed with their chutzpah. The different defence reactions are interesting. Last week I disturbed what I'm pretty sure was a brooding Ovenbird, which crept along the ground with a hooding action and looking back at me to make sure I was following it away from the nest. Then there are our juncos, which burst explosively from the nest if you get too close, then just kind of hang around pretending there's nothing wrong and waiting for you to move off -- they seem very placid about the whole affair.
