This is not actually about David Sergeant's death, as I did not know him.
The announcement made me realise, however, that many of you might be
interested in a committee on which I am presently serving. The "Green
Burial Working Group" of the Nova Scotia Memorial Society is seeking to
provide Nova Scotians with alternatives which are kinder to our environment
than typical burial practices:
1: interment without embalming
2: non-polluting containers
3: park or forest landscaping without standing markers

We are currently compiling a list of Cemeteries and Funeral Services which
are able and willing to accommodate these desires. Our long-term goal is to
see the establishment of a Cemetery which is dedicated exclusively to
"green" practices.

If any of you are interested in joining this effort or keeping apprised of
our findings, please contact me off-list.

Jane Schlosberg
p.s. You may not have given thought to this, but cremation uses a huge
amount of combustible material and also puts considerable pollutants in the
air, particularly if the body has been embalmed and teeth with mercury
fillings have not been removed prior to. We have been informed that no Nova
Scotia crematoria have filters on their stacks to mitigate this problem.
