I attended the 7 am field trip with the hope of seeing the Virginia rail =
and sora at the Goose Creek Marsh (Roberts Island). To our =
disappointment, we only heard their calls... Hearing them was not good =
enough for us! Birds mentioning were:

1 immature Purple martin - thanks to Clyde Stoddard's sharp eye
1 American woodcock flying - most of the participants saw it

After watching and studying the three tern species (Common, Roseate, =
Arctic) off the lookoff in Pubnico and the House wren at Ethelda =
Murphy's pace, I drove to Cape Sable Island for some birding.=20

Johnny Nickerson reported seeing 11 American Oystercatchers (the highest =
number ever??) a few days ago.=20

1 Hermit Thrush at Johnny's place - insects in its beak =20
2 Grey catbirds; one at Johnny's place; another at the Hawk
2 Black crowned Night Herons near the guzzle / The hawk -- excellent =
close up looks!
3 American Oystercatchers in the thick fog at Daniel's Head
lots of young Grackles and starlings

Cheers, liz
