Hi,

I just want to give my $ 0.02 worth on this BIGBY idea.

The whole concept makes only sense if BIGBY isn't just another list
kept along with all the other lists folks keep in competitive or non-
competitive birding (birds seen in ones backyard, in NA, during a
birders life-span, while standing on one leg and eating a bowl of
rice ......). Otherwise one would just keep another sublist for a
year while be still on the road to chase down a rare bird in far
corners of the province, county, continent to keep all those other
lists up-to-date and in the running.....

Going on a fieldtrip or outing and having the car stuffed to capacity
with birders, and attending fieldtrips that once on location don't
required the use of a car, exchanging our gas guzzling trucks and
SUVs with a more efficient successor when its time has come are more
realistic approaches to cut our carbon footprint during recreational
birding and beyond than the BIGBY. BIGBY in its pure form would
really limit ones birding activity big time for a year if taken 100%
seriously, and I can't see that happen for most people I know.

At least we as birders realize now -if we haven't already before-
that our hobby isn't completely environmentally friendly (but still
better than plowing a lake with a jet ski, or to dig up the woods on
an ATV for recreational purposes). We should do whatever we can to
limit emissions -not just while birding- but be realistic about how
it can be done.
