Earlier today, Hans Toom sent a report on a trip to Sambro Island nine of us made yesterday. Here are some photos from the day. (My camera hasn't close to the telescopic power of other cameras present, so the bird photos are limited.) Any botanical help with the species in images 22-23 would be appreciated--flowers somewhat resembling Queen Anne's Lace, with white heads accompanied by a purplish tinge, but not at all the right sort of leaves; and images 24-26, what I'm guessing might be Starry False Solomon's Seal. Sedum were plentiful, various in hues and formations of clustering. (Not sure if these are different species of Sedum, or simply variations of the same.) It seems like another world out there, ruled by black-backed gulls, guillemots, arctic terns, water & rock & wind. Hard to say how long before the abandoned buildings will -- even if the lighthouse is kept operating -- go the way of the dodo.
